«La muerte y la ciudad» is a collection of short stories by Cornell Woolrich (William Irish), published by Alianza in paperback (120 pages, in Spanish).
Four stories with an urban setting and unsettling tone in which the author portrays loneliness, desperation and the fragile line between sanity and madness. They are suspense stories with a psychological eye, centred on characters driven to extreme situations by their own fears.
1986 edition in the El Libro de Bolsillo collection (no. 1182, Literature section). Selection and notes by Francis M. Nevins Jr. and translation by María Ángeles Aledo; text translated from Nightwebs (part II).
For readers of classic suspense and short fiction, and for those interested in twentieth-century mystery narrative.
Cornell George Hopley Woolrich was an American novelist and short story writer. He sometimes used the pseudonyms William Irish and George Hopley. His biographer, Francis Nevins Jr., rated Woolrich the fourth best crime writer of his day, behind Dashiell Hammett, Erle Stanley Gardner and Raymond Chandler.
