«La gata con alas» is the novel by Enriqueta Antolín, published by Alfaguara in paperback (160 pages, in Spanish).
In 1950, in a Castilian city: a soldier with unfinished business, a mother who dreams of being a woman, a grandfather who grows younger, and a neighbour who liven up the neighbourhood. Thirty years later, a woman recalls the smells, absences and melodies that marked her life. A melancholy parody of the postwar period, with bitter humour and loveless futures.
«La gata con alas» received the Tigre Juan Prize in 1992 and belongs to the Alfaguara Hispánica collection.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction and novels set in the postwar period.
