«La fille aux orages» is the novel by Jean Anglade published by Pocket in paperback (384 pages, in French).
After the disappointment of his son Raoul's seafaring career, Auguste Mercier sees him return in 1975 with Béatrice, a young woman from Indochina, and her daughter. Béatrice clashes with the rural world of Auvergne and the incomprehension of its people; between Saigon and Puy-de-Dôme, love and necessity cross borders.
The novel was originally published in 1999 by Presses de la Cité; the edition with this ISBN is from 2001.
For those seeking a French novel with a rural setting and a female protagonist facing a hostile environment.
