«La Chartreuse de Parme» is Stendhal's novel, published by Flammarion in paperback (687 pages, in French).
The novel follows Fabrice del Dongo, a young Italian aristocrat, from the Battle of Waterloo to the court of Parma, where political intrigues and amorous passions intertwine. Confined in the Farnese Tower, he meets Clélia, the governor's daughter, and finds in her a love that distances him from power.
The novel was originally published in 1839; this 2009 French edition includes a presentation by Fabienne Bercegol, an interview with Vincent Delecroix, and a dossier.
It is aimed at readers of classics of nineteenth-century French literature.

Marie-Henri Beyle, better known by his pen name Stendhal, was a French writer. Best known for the novels Le Rouge et le Noir and La Chartreuse de Parme, he is highly regarded for the acute analysis of his characters' psychology and considered one of the early and foremost practitioners of realism. A self-proclaimed egotist, the neologism for the same characteristic in his characters was "Beylism".
