«Journal de captivité» is Louis Althusser's diary of his captivity in Stalag XA (1940-1945), published by Stock/IMEC in paperback (355 pages, in French).
Louis Althusser was taken prisoner in June 1940 and remained in Stalag XA in Schleswig until 1945. The volume brings together his three captivity notebooks —life in the camp, conversations, readings and reflections—, letters to family and friends, and texts published in Le lien, the Stalag's magazine.

Louis Pierre Althusser was a French Marxist philosopher who studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, where he eventually became professor of philosophy. Althusser's life was marked by periods of intense mental illness. In 1980, he killed his wife, the sociologist Hélène Rytmann, by strangling her. He was declared unfit to stand trial due to insanity and committed to a psychiatric hospital for three years. He did little further academic work, dying in 1990.
