«Historia universal de la infamia» is Jorge Luis Borges's collection of short stories, published by Alianza Editorial in paperback (139 pages, in Spanish).
It brings together brief tales about real or invented characters united by infamy: gunmen, traitors, impostors, and figures from the East, Islam, and the Wild West. Borges blends erudition and irony to turn biographies and legends into fictions about betrayal, revenge, and cruelty, with detachment and humour.
The work originally appeared in 1935. This 1983 edition includes a final index of sources (pp. 137-138).
A suitable work for readers of short fiction and Latin American literature, and for university students approaching Borges.

Jorge Francisco Isidoro Luis Borges was an Argentine short-story writer, essayist, poet and translator regarded as a key figure in Spanish-language and international literature. His best-known works, Ficciones (transl. Fictions) and El Aleph, published in the 1940s, are collections of short stories exploring motifs such as dreams, labyrinths, chance, infinity, archives, mirrors, fictional writers, and mythology. Borges's works have contributed to philosophical literature and the fantasy genre, and have had a major influence on the magical realist movement in 20th century Latin American literature.
