In 'There Is Something That Isn't as They Say It Is', Juan José Millás narrates the true story of Nevenka Fernández, a councilwoman who denounced sexual harassment by the mayor of Ponferrada. Through interviews and tracking the judicial process, Millás constructs a chronicle about the fight against machismo and the search for internal resources to overcome a situation of victimization. This book, which has inspired Icíar Bollaín's film 'I'm Nevenka', offers a reflection on the validity of this case and the social mechanisms that perpetuate injustice.
Juan José Millás is a Spanish writer and winner of the 1990 Premio Nadal. He was born in Valencia and has spent most of his life in Madrid, where he studied philosophy and literature at the Universidad Complutense.
