«Frau Jenny Treibel oder Wo sich Herz zum Herzen find't» is Theodor Fontane's social novel, published by Reclam in paperback (224 pages, in German).
The novel satirises with humour the bourgeois society of nineteenth-century Berlin. Jenny Treibel, a woman of high society, embodies an idealistic sentimentalism that clashes with the amorous intrigues and ambitions of those around her, in a plot of social conventions, marriages and class differences.
Novel originally published in 1892; this 1973 edition belongs to the Universal-Bibliothek collection (no. 7635) and includes an epilogue by Walter Müller-Seidel.
Suitable for students of German literature and readers of realist fiction.

Theodor Fontane was a German novelist and poet, regarded by many as the most important 19th-century German-language realist author. He published the first of his novels, for which he is best known today, only at age 58 after a career as a journalist. Many of his novels delve into topics that were more or less taboo for discussion in the polite society of Fontane's day, including marital infidelity, class differences, urban vs. rural differences, abandonment of children, and suicide. His novels sold well during his lifetime and several have been adapted for film or audio works.
