«Este Rei Que Eu Escolhi» is the children's and young adult novel by Alice Vieira, published by Caminho in paperback (200 pages, in Portuguese).
The protagonists of «A Espada do Rei Afonso» and their elderly aunt take part in the election of the Master of Avis, the future John I, who begins the second Portuguese dynasty. The Master of Avis, an indecisive man, benefits from the young people's initiative and Aunt Leocádia's advice, while humour and misunderstandings run through the narrative.
It features illustrations by Teresa Dias Coelho and shares protagonists with «A Espada do Rei Afonso». Portugal's National Reading Plan recommends it for years 3 to 6.
Aimed at young readers and school projects on Portuguese history, with a humorous tone.
