«Escuela de mandarines» is the novel by Miguel Espinosa, published by Amelia Romero Editora in paperback (720 pages, in Spanish).
In an imaginary state called Feliz Gobernación, happiness reaches only a few. Six castes —mandarins, laymen, fellows, mayors, stake men and the people— uphold the order, watched over by a Great Father Mandarin and a Conciliator who is usually a dictator. The novel reflects on power and social organisation.
Third edition in the Papeles literarios collection; the work won the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona in 1974.
For readers of contemporary Spanish fiction interested in allegorical narratives and critiques of power.
