Synopsis of Entre dos palacios

"Entre dos palacios" es el primer volumen de la Trilogía de El Cairo, obra cumbre de Naguib Mahfuz, Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1988. La novela narra la historia de Ahmad Abd el-Gawwad, un hombre que somete a su esposa Amina bajo el yugo de la ley musulmana, mientras que en el barrio es un hombre jovial y seductor. Sus hijos, Yasín, Jadiga, Fahmi, Aisha y Kamal, son víctimas de la moral hipócrita de su padre. El enclaustramiento, la resignación, el amor, la política y la religión son los temas centrales de esta narración de interiores atormentados, que constituye un retrato de El Cairo por excelencia.
