February 962. Convinced they are protecting the king's peace and aiming to recover stolen cattle, a group of Castilian knights assaults the Leonese fortress of Count Gonzalo, executing him in a fit of rage. Unbeknownst to them, he is one of King Sancho's most beloved vassals, who demands an exemplary punishment. Fearing the worst, the villains seek the protection of Fernán González, who sends them to Córdoba as escorts for the deposed Ordoño IV. Thus, Asur, Munnio, Gundisalvo, and Mudarra become pawns in the complex intrigue played by great Christian kings and feudal lords to consolidate their power in the Iberian Peninsula, embarking on an exciting journey through Muslim Spain filled with adventure and danger.
