Immerse yourself in José Donoso's masterpiece, 'The Obscene Bird of Night,' a novel that weaves an unforgettable journey through the labyrinths of identity, degradation, and oblivion. Narrated from the perspective of Mudito, the story flows like a river from being to nothingness, constructing a world destined for deterioration and confusion of any possible identity. The old women of the House of the Incarnation of the Chimba and the monsters of the Rinconada illustrate despair and everyday pleasures, uniting the instinct of life with the terror of the dark and unnamable. Discover why Harold Bloom considers it an essential work of the Western canon of the 20th century.

José Manuel Donoso Yáñez, was a Chilean writer, journalist and professor. He lived most of his life in Chile, although he spent many years in self-imposed exile in Mexico, the United States and Spain. Although he stated that he had left Chile in the 1960s for personal reasons, after 1973 his exile was also a form of protest against the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet. He returned to Chile in 1981 and lived there until his death in 1996.
