«El niño del palo de fuego» is the children's novel by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Bajón, published by Editorial Everest in paperback (72 pages, in Spanish).
The Matís tribe lives in the Amazon until the white man forces it deeper into the jungle. Totí, a boy from the tribe, guards the sacred fire passed down by his ancestors; the impatience of a civilized man extinguishes the flame and exposes two ways of understanding the world: tradition versus imposed culture.
Published in 1999 in the Leer es vivir collection, with illustrations by Suso Cubeiro.
For child and young adult readers aged 10 and up, interested in adventure, nature, and other cultures.
