«El Napoleón de Notting Hill» is the satirical novel by G. K. Chesterton, published by Bruguera in paperback (252 pages, in Spanish).
In a future London, kings are chosen by lot and the crown falls on a citizen with a peculiar sense of humour. His clash with the provost of Notting Hill, inflamed with local patriotism, turns the city into an absurd battlefield. A riotous satire on monarchy, nationalism and political solemnity, with an ironic and zany tone running through the whole novel.
Chesterton's first novel, originally published in 1904. This Bruguera edition is from 1981, belongs to the Todo libro collection and includes illustrations by Gerardo R. Amechazurra and a translation by Pilar Giralt.
For readers with a taste for political satire, exuberant humour and early 20th-century English literature.
Gilbert Keith Chesterton was an English Christian apologist writer. Chesterton's wit, paradoxical style, and defence of tradition made him a dominant figure in early 20th-century literature.
