«El diario de Edith» is Edith Velmans's autobiographical testimony, published in paperback by Mondadori in 1999 (298 pages, in Spanish).
Edith Velmans was thirteen in 1938 when she began writing her diary in The Hague, where she lived with her Jewish family. With the Nazi occupation she had to hide her identity to survive, taken in by non-Jewish acquaintances while receiving news of the deportation and death of her loved ones. Thus she recounts her survival during the Holocaust.
It belongs to the collection «Las mil y una voces». Translated by Josefina Ruiz from the original 'Edith's Story' (1998). The work received the Jewish Quarterly-Wingate Prize in 1999.
For readers interested in historical memory, the Holocaust and Second World War testimonies.
