«El cuento de invierno; La tempestad» brings together two plays by William Shakespeare in a paperback volume from Planeta (162 pages, in Spanish).
The Tempest presents Prospero, rightful Duke of Milan, exiled, who lives on an island with his daughter Miranda and the spirit Ariel; when the ship of those who betrayed him approaches, he unleashes a storm to confront his past. The Winter's Tale combines jealousy, loss and reunions in a story that advances over the years.
1984 edition from the Clásicos Universales Planeta collection (no. 82), with an introduction by Pere Gimferrer, chronology by María Pilar Zozaya and translation by José María Valverde.
For readers interested in the classics of world theatre and in Shakespeare's work in Spanish translation.
William Shakespeare was an English playwright, poet and actor. He is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" or simply "the Bard". His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays, 154 sonnets, 3 long narrative poems and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. Shakespeare remains arguably the most influential writer in the English language, and his works continue to be studied and reinterpreted.
