«El caballero de las espuelas de oro» is the theatre volume by Alejandro Casona published by Austral in paperback (204 pages, in Spanish).
The volume brings together one of Alejandro Casona's last works: a lyrical vision of Francisco de Quevedo in which the historical is interwoven with Quevedo's texts, with a lesson on fidelity to oneself and to the truth. The book is completed with «Retablo jovial», five short pieces from different periods, some written for the Misiones Pedagógicas that toured the towns of Spain in the 1930s.
2007 edition in the Austral 70 Años collection, Theatre series, with an introduction by M.ª de las Mercedes Marcos Sánchez. The original text was published in 1962.
For readers of 20th-century Spanish theatre and for those who want to approach Francisco de Quevedo from a stage proposal by Alejandro Casona.

Alejandro Rodríguez Álvarez, known as Alejandro Casona was a Spanish poet and playwright born in Besullo, Spain, a member of the Generation of '27. Casona received his bachelor's degree in Gijon and later studied at the University of Murcia. After Franco's rise in 1936, he was forced, like many Spanish intellectuals, to leave Spain. He lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina until April 1962, when he definitively returned to Spain.
