«El amor sólo dura 2.000 metros» is a five-act comedy by Enrique Jardiel Poncela, published by Ediciones Espuela de Plata in paperback (160 pages).
Set in 1930s Hollywood, it follows a Spanish novelist in the film capital, where he clashes with American materialism and the corruption of the big studios. The protagonist is a stand-in for Jardiel himself, and the comedy combines social satire with a more dramatic tone than audiences expected at its premiere.
First installment of the El Teatro Moderno collection (Serie Mayor), with a prologue by Enrique Gallud Jardiel. The play premiered at the Teatro de la Comedia in Madrid in 1941.
