«Ein Freund. Geschichten.» is a collection of short stories by Jakob Arjouni, published by Diogenes Verlag in paperback (161 pages, in German).
In six stories, Arjouni combines irony, dry humour and a certain melancholy to talk about childhood friends, hitmen with no future, lucky hostages and outlandish plans, including an assassination attempt on the Pope. His characters are dreamers and losers who believe anything is possible, but reality eventually prevails.
The work originally appeared in 1998; this edition is from November 1999 and belongs to the Diogenes-Taschenbuch series (no. 23024).
Jakob Bothe, better known by his pen name Jakob Arjouni, was a German author. He received the 1992 German Crime Fiction Prize for One Man, One Murder.
