«Dónde estás, Bernadette» is the novel by Maria Semple, published by Círculo de Lectores in hardback (346 pages, in Spanish).
The plot kicks off when Bernadette Fox, a brilliant architect and eccentric mother, disappears on the eve of a trip to Antarctica. Emails, documents and testimonies allow her life, her social anxiety and her search for lost creativity to be reconstructed, in a reflection on identity, family and social expectations.
The work was originally published in 2012 as «Where'd You Go, Bernadette»; the translation is by Ángeles Leiva Morales.
Suitable for book clubs and for those seeking a contemporary novel with humour, everyday mystery and a complex female protagonist.
