Viadiu i Vendrell was Delegate of Public Order in Lleida from January to September 1937. He recounts his efforts to uphold republican legality and protect the population in the rear guard, including episodes such as the events of Bellver de Cerdanya and the death of Antonio Martín Escudero, the «Cojo de Málaga», shortly before the May events.
