«Defensa apasionada del idioma español» is the essay by Álex Grijelmo, published by Taurus in hardback (296 pages, in Spanish).
Álex Grijelmo analyses the challenges facing Spanish in the age of globalisation: school teaching, pressure from English and the neglect by those in power in Spanish-speaking countries. The author champions the inner genius of the language and proposes defending it without attacking others; every language that disappears carries away ideas created by human beings.
Published in November 1998, it belongs to the Taurus Pensamiento collection and includes bibliographic references on pages 291-294.
For readers interested in the Spanish language, linguistics and the role of language in education and culture.
