«D'autres vies que la mienne» is the novel by Emmanuel Carrère, published by Folio in paperback (352 pages, in French).
Twice, life makes the author a witness to what he fears most: the death of a child and that of a young mother. Tasked with telling their story, he reconstructs the friendship between two cancer-surviving judges who handle over-indebtedness cases in Vienne (Isère), in a narrative about illness, extreme poverty, justice and love, with the tsunami experienced by Carrère in Sri Lanka in the background.
It belongs to the Folio collection, number 5131, in the French edition published in 2010.
For readers of contemporary fiction interested in true stories about life, death and friendship.
Emmanuel Carrère is a French author, screenwriter and film director.
