«Cinco horas con Mario» is the novel by Miguel Delibes, published by Destino in hardback (290 pages, in Spanish).
While keeping watch over her husband Mario's corpse for five hours, Carmen leafs through the Bible and reads the passages he underlined. Those verses trigger an inner monologue in which the widow reviews their life together, her grudges and her misunderstandings, and ends up drawing the portrait of a disjointed marriage and of the Spain of her time.
The novel, originally published in 1966, belongs in this 1992 edition to the Narrativa Actual collection, number 8.
