«Charming Billy» is the novel by Alice McDermott, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in hardback (280 pages, in English).
After Billy Lynch's death, his family and friends gather in a Bronx bar to remember him and support his widow, Maeve. Through anecdotes and silences, they reconstruct the life of a beloved man, marked by alcoholism and the memory of Eva, the Irish girl; thus emerges a choral portrait of memory, love, and the bonds that sustain a community.
Novel winner of the 1998 National Book Award and the American Book Award, finalist for the Dublin Literary Award. First hardback edition from Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
