«Cantar de Roldán» is the anonymous medieval chanson de geste edited by Juan Victorio, published by Ediciones Cátedra in paperback (208 pages, in Spanish).
The events date back to the year 778, when Charlemagne was returning from a military expedition through Spain and his rearguard was attacked at Roncesvalles. There Roldán, prefect of the Breton march, died. Three centuries later, the oldest French version of the poem turned that episode into an epic song of a warrior universe and mythical resonances.
The work belongs to the Letras Universales collection from Cátedra, where it bears number 5; this is its eighth edition, prepared by Juan Victorio.
Suitable for students of medieval literature and for readers who want to approach one of the great classics of European epic poetry.
