«Blown: The Incredible Story of John Goldsmith» is the biography of Jamie Reid, published by Racing Post Books in paperback (384 pages, in English).
John Goldsmith, son of a horse trainer, grew up in Paris and spoke fluent French. Recruited by the SOE in 1942, he was dropped three times behind enemy lines and organised the escape of a French general across the Pyrenees. Captured by the Gestapo in Paris, he managed to escape from a locked room on the third floor of a hotel. After the war, Goldsmith applied his spy skills to the world of horse racing and took part in some of the boldest bets on British racecourses.
Jamie Reid is also the author of «Doped», winner of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year in 2013.
For readers interested in the Second World War, espionage and true stories of horse racing.
