Yesterday is a novel by the writer Agota Kristof, published in 1998. The story follows Tobias Horvard, who leaves his native country after a failed attempt at patricide and becomes a worker. He seeks a normality that isolates him, taking refuge in writing and waiting for an idealized woman. When she appears, daughter of his same father, their relationship is marked by coldness and obstacles.

Ágota Kristóf was a Hungarian writer who lived in Switzerland and wrote in French. Kristóf received the "European prize" from ADELF, the association of Francophone authors, for Le Grand Cahier. It was followed by two sequels which are collectively The Notebook Trilogy. She won the 2001 Gottfried Keller Award in Switzerland and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature in 2008.
