«Arrête avec tes mensonges» is the novel by Philippe Besson, published by Julliard in paperback (194 pages, in French).
The narrator, back in his hometown, thinks he recognises his first teenage love. He recalls the secret attraction between two opposite young men: a shy student, son of a schoolteacher, and a charismatic boy of peasant origin. Their clandestine relationship is marked by guilt and silence, in an environment that makes it hard to accept one's own identity.
Philippe Besson's first foray into autofiction, published in 2017 and winner of the Prix Maison de la Presse 2017 and the Prix Psychologies du Roman inspirant.
A read aimed at those looking for autofiction novels, queer romance and contemporary French literature.
