«Angela Carter's Book of Fairy Tales» is Angela Carter's anthology of fairy tales, published by Little, Brown in hardback (486 pages, in English).
A collection of folk tales from the Arctic to Asia, with stories that are lyrical, raw and hilarious. There are no silly princesses or saccharine fairies here: maidens, crones, sorceresses, midwives and ingenious women rely on cunning and, at times, dark arts. A tribute to female intelligence and daring.
Edition bringing together «The Virago Book of Fairy Tales» (1990) and «The Second Virago Book of Fairy Tales» (1992). Illustrated with engravings by Corinna Sargood, with an afterword by Marina Warner.
For readers of folklore and retellings seeking unsweetened tales with shrewd female protagonists, and admirers of Angela Carter.
