«Afrika, dunkel lockende Welt» is Tania Blixen's memoir, published by Manesse-Verlag in hardback (479 pages, in German).
The author recalls the years she spent on a coffee plantation in Kenya, near Nairobi, between 1914 and 1931: hunting, droughts and torrential rains, the highland nature and the lives of the Kikuyu and the Masai. The book, between autobiography and fiction, inspired the film «Memorias de África».
Translation from English into German by Rudolf von Scholtz, with an epilogue by Jürg Glauser, in the Manesse Bibliothek der Weltliteratur collection; the work originally appeared as «Out of Africa».
For readers of memoirs, travel literature and African colonial history; also for those seeking the work that inspired «Memorias de África».
