«A desordenada cobiça dos bens alheios» is the picaresque novel by Carlos García, published by Antígona in paperback (143 pages, in Portuguese).
Published in Paris in 1619 and linked to exile literature, this work by Carlos García fuses the French «ladronesca» current with the Spanish picaresque novel. Its prose satirises the society of the time by examining the supposed antiquity and nobility of thieves; some critics even attributed it to Cervantes himself.
The full title includes the subtitle «A antiguidade e nobreza dos ladrões». The original text dates from 1619 and this edition is from 2002.
For readers interested in the picaresque novel, exile literature and 17th-century European literary connections.
