«A Delayed Life» is the autobiographical account of Dita Kraus, the librarian of Auschwitz, published by Ebury Publishing in paperback (320 pages, in English).
Dita Kraus, born in Prague in 1929, looks back on her childhood, the Terezín ghetto and her deportation to Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen. At Auschwitz she was the librarian of the few books that prisoners managed to hide, an act of resistance that marked her life. After liberation, she rebuilt her life in Israel with Otto B. Kraus, also a survivor.
Published in 2020, Dita Kraus's testimony expands the story fictionalised by Antonio Iturbe in The Librarian of Auschwitz.
For those interested in Holocaust testimonies, survivor memoirs and the history of the Second World War.
