«50 contre 1» is a collection of short stories by Philippe Djian, published by J'ai Lu in paperback, 224 pages, in French.
The eleven stories in the volume portray lives marked by routine, bureaucracy and poorly paid jobs. Their protagonists, people society wouldn't bet on even at 50 to 1, move between failed dreams, small rebellions and gestures of tenderness, with Philippe Djian's characteristic irony and sensitivity.
April 1988 edition, number 2363 of the J'ai Lu collection. Cover photograph by Patrick Bard.
For readers of contemporary French fiction and short stories set in everyday life.
