«Wozzeck» is Alban Berg's opera, released in 2018 by Andromeda on CD, with Dimitri Mitropoulos and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra.
Based on Georg Büchner's unfinished drama «Woyzeck», the opera follows a poor, humiliated soldier who, subjected to oppression and his own delusions, is dragged towards a tragic fate. Berg's atonal, expressionist score translates his anguish into a dense, harrowing atmosphere, with moments of great dramatic tension.
This recording is conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos and performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The Andromeda CD carries catalogue number ANR 2514/15.
For opera and 20th-century classical music fans interested in a key expressionist score of the repertoire.
