«Wind Quintets 1 & 2» is the album by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet, released in 2018 by BIS on CD.
The album brings together the two wind quintets by Finnish composer Kalevi Aho, written in 2006 and 2014. The first plays with single-voice passages to achieve a homogeneous texture; the second was commissioned and premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet. It is contemporary music with demanding language, contrasting lyrical and dramatic elements.
Michael Hasel (flute), Andreas Wittmann (oboe), Walter Seyfarth (clarinet), Fergus McWilliam (horn) and Marion Reinhard (bassoon) form the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet.
For listeners of contemporary classical music seeking demanding chamber works, outside the more usual repertoire.
