«Voices from the Distant Steppe» is the album by Shu-De, released in 1994 on Real World Records, on CD.
The ensemble Shu-De recreates the atmosphere of the Mongolian steppes with traditional-rooted songs and overtone singing, a vocal technique that produces several tones at once. The result is a serene and evocative folk record, close to world music, with vocal textures and minimalist soundscapes.
European edition on CD with one disc (catalogue number CDRW41), released by Real World Records and Virgin Records; it came out on 26 February 1994.
Aimed at fans of folk and world music, especially those interested in Central Asian overtone singing.
