«Violin Sonatas Nos. 1 & 2 / 2 Canzonas with Dances» is the album by Medtner with Laurence Kayaleh and Paul Stewart, released in 2008 on Naxos CD.
The CD brings together this second instalment of Medtner's music for violin and piano: Sonata No. 1, Op. 21, inspired by the myth of Dionysus; Sonata No. 2, Op. 44; and the 2 Canzonas with Dances, Op. 43. These are Romantic works, with late-Romantic textures, Russian accents and a constant dialogue between violin and piano.
Recorded at Pollack Hall (McGill University, Montreal) in June 2002. Second volume of the Complete Works for Violin and Piano series. DDD recording.
For fans of chamber music and the Romantic violin and piano repertoire, especially the work of Medtner.
