«The Watcher» is the CD single by Dr. Dre, released in 2001 on Interscope.
West Coast hip-hop track in which Dr. Dre takes on the role of observer of the rap scene: dense, enveloping production underpins unhurried lyrics that review his place in the genre and the world around him. The song conveys the watchfulness announced by its title and the artist's sonic aesthetic at the start of the 2000s.
Released on 26 February 2001; the recording is in English and the cover combines a black background with the title in neon green over a close-up of eyes.
For those following Dr. Dre's career and early-2000s West Coast hip-hop.
