«The Tatum Group Masterpieces, Vol. 7» is the album by Art Tatum, Buddy DeFranco, Red Callender and Bill Douglass, released in 1990 on the Pablo label, on CD.
It brings together Art Tatum on piano with Buddy DeFranco on clarinet, Red Callender on double bass and Bill Douglass on drums in a quartet format. The group performs jazz standards and alternate takes, with a style that draws on swing and bop and leaves room for Art Tatum's virtuoso improvisation.
The original sessions were recorded in 1956, produced by Norman Granz; this edition is a remastered reissue from Pablo Records.
For jazz collectors and for lovers of piano and Art Tatum's improvisation.
