«The Jazz Soul of Oscar Peterson / Oscar Peterson Plays Porgy & Bess» is the jazz compilation by Oscar Peterson, released by Essential Jazz Classics on CD.
The CD brings together two albums by pianist Oscar Peterson: on one hand, his trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen performs a selection of standards with the competence and swing that characterised the group; on the other, Peterson alone tackles several arias from «Porgy & Bess», George Gershwin's opera, transforming them into piano pieces of melodic clarity and elegant rhythm.
This Essential Jazz Classics edition (EJC 55483) groups the two complete albums on a single CD, with remastered stereo sound.
Recommended for fans of classic jazz and piano who want a single disc with Oscar Peterson's unmistakable style.
