«Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker» is the jazz album by The Classical Jazz Quartet, released in 2001 by Nocturne on CD.
The quartet of Stefon Harris, Kenny Barron, Ron Carter and Lewis Nash covers the ballet «El cascanueces» by Tchaikovsky with arrangements by Bob Belden and a hard bop style. The classical melodies become jazz pieces with room for improvisation, as in the «Danza del hada de azúcar» and the «Vals de las flores».
Released on 1 November 2001; single-disc edition.
Will appeal to those who enjoy the fusion of jazz and classical music and instrumental reworkings of ballets such as «El cascanueces».
