«Symphony No. 2 "Sintram"» is the album by George Templeton Strong performed by the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, released by Naxos on CD.
The recording brings together two orchestral works by George Templeton Strong: the Symphony No. 2 in G minor, Op. 50 «Sintram», a late-Romantic symphony of great colour whose programme reflects humanity's struggle against evil, and the «Chorale on a Theme of Hans Leo Hassler», of serene beauty. The movement «Kampf und Sieg» stands out.
It belongs to the American Classics series, with catalogue number 8.559018; it lasts 66:35, was recorded at Mosfilm Studios in March 1998 and features violinist Alexander Avramenko as soloist.
For fans of late-Romantic symphonic music and under-programmed American composers; the music evokes Liszt or Tchaikovsky.
