«Symphonies Nos. 3 and 5» is the album by William Schuman, released in 2006 by Naxos Deutschland GmbH, on CD, with the Seattle Symphony and Gerard Schwarz.
Performed by the Seattle Symphony and Gerard Schwarz, this album brings together Symphony No. 3, structured on Baroque models, and Symphony No. 5, also known as Symphony for Strings, a work of great contrapuntal skill. It is completed with Judith, a choreographic poem for orchestra inspired by the biblical episode of Judith and Holofernes.
A disc from Naxos's American Classics series (8.559317), the third instalment of the cycle devoted to Schuman's complete symphonies. Total duration: 67:45.
For classical music listeners interested in 20th-century American symphony and in Gerard Schwarz's versions leading the Seattle Symphony.
