«Sufi Songs of Damascus» is the album by Hamza Shakkûr and the Ensemble Al-Kindî, released in 1993 by Long Distance, on CD.
A repertoire of Syrian spiritual music centred on the Sufi tradition of Damascus. Hamza Shakkûr's voice is accompanied by the Ensemble Al-Kindî, directed by Julien Jalâl Eddine Weiss, in pieces that blend religious chants, sung poems and instrumental improvisations (taqsîm), with an air of mystical celebration.
Recording in Arabic, in a French CD edition, within the genre of traditional and religious music.
For fans of world music and the Sufi traditions of the Middle East.
