String Quartets Op.17, Nos. 3, 5 And 6

Synopsis of String Quartets Op.17, Nos. 3, 5 And 6

«String Quartets Op. 17, Nos. 3, 5 and 6» is the album by the Kodály Quartet with quartets by Joseph Haydn, released in 1999 by Naxos on CD.

The CD brings together three string quartets that Joseph Haydn composed between 1771 and 1772, when he still conceived them as divertimentos: No. 3 in E-flat major, No. 5 in G major, and No. 6 in D major. These are four-movement works showing the composer advancing toward the genre's maturity, with the Kodály Quartet at the forefront. The Quartet in D major Op. 17 No. 6 and the Quartet in E-flat major Op. 17 No. 3 stand out.

Recorded at the Unitarian Church of Budapest from 13 to 16 May 1996. Total duration: 56:38. Catalogue number: 8.550854.

For fans of chamber music and Kodály Quartet recordings, with an interest in the classical quartet repertoire.
