«Stabat Mater» is a baroque music compilation by Pergolesi, Scarlatti and Bononcini, released by Decca as a double CD.
The album takes its title from Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, a sacred baroque work evoking Mary's suffering at the crucifixion. The programme combines that piece with works by Scarlatti and Bononcini, performed by the St. John's College Choir and the Schütz Choir under the direction of George Guest and Roger Norrington.
Remastered compilation in the Double Decker series; the cover reproduces a scene of the Pietà.
For fans of baroque music and choral vocal repertoire.
