«Prokofiev: Orchestral Suites» is the compilation by Sergei Prokofiev, released in 1997 by Naxos on CD.
The CD brings together several orchestral suites composed by Sergei Prokofiev from his stage works: Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, Lieutenant Kijé and The Love for Three Oranges. It offers a sample of the Russian composer's neoclassical language, with contrasts between the lyricism of the ballet passages, the comic quality of the march and the narrative character of the symphonic pieces.
Includes performances by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Slovak State Philharmonic, conducted by Andrew Mogrelia and Theodore Kuchar. DDD digital recording.
Will appeal to classical music fans wanting an introduction to Prokofiev's orchestral repertoire and his ballet suites.
