«Mahler: Symphony No. 9 - Strauss: Metamorphosen» is the double CD album by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, released in 1998 on EMI Classics.
It brings together Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 9 and Richard Strauss's Metamorphosen, two works of the late-Romantic repertoire, in a live recording at the Wiener Musikverein. The Vienna Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle offer an intense reading of both scores, combining Mahler's vast symphonic scale with the elegiac density of Strauss's piece.
Live recording at the Wiener Musikverein. Total duration: 109 minutes. The album consists of two CDs.
